Storage Container Homes

Lately, storage containers being used for homes is becoming popular. Architects have realized that for the price, a large shipping container has a lot of room and is fairly well put together. For about $3500, a 40' shipping container can be bought, and it can be outfitted very nicely for about $10,000. It might as well be and even 15k for the end result.

The $3500 dollar shipping containers are seaworthy containers. Sturdy, water tight, all steel construction. If you look around on the Internet, you can find various places that sell prefabbed homes or the standard single-wide trailer, which is about the same size as the container, and generally more expensive. To me, it comes down to this, you can spend 17k for a steel framed house that is fire resistant, water-tight, and all around pretty strong, or you can spend more on something like a single wide trailer that is filled to the brim with various forms of 'tinder' if a fire started and everyone has seen how trailers fair against things like tornadoes.
